Dwarf
& Specimen Plants
It has often been said that the
best things come in small packages, and that is
certainly true when it comes to dwarf varieties
of plants. There are many wonderful dwarf plants,
from flowers to trees and shrubs, and they can
add beauty and drama to your landscape.
Dwarf varieties of plants work best
in small areas where they can be observed in close
quarters. For instance, dwarf plants are perfect
for patios and entrance ways. Dwarf plants are
also wonderful along sidewalks and walkways, underneath
low setting windows and for windowsill and planter
box settings.
Specimen plants are plants grown
by themselves in a lawn or garden for ornamental
effect, rather than being massed with others as
are bedding plants or edging plants. Specimen
plants can thus serve as focal points in landscape
design. An example of a specimen plant is a flowering
tree that has a prominent spot reserved for it
on a lawn. |
